The Young Highlanders is our developmental program for boys in elementary to middle school that are new to the game of lacrosse. Managed by our TWHS JV Head Coach Joe Watson, participants are introduced to the game of lacrosse.
The program is designed to give young athletes a solid fundamental skill base and game IQ. We recommend that all new players to the WJHLC participate in at lease one year of Young Highlanders prior to trying out for our competitive teams.
1st & 2nd graders will participate in a 90 mins of drills once a week (Wednesdays) to learn the basics stick sills required to be successful in the game of lacrosse including passing, catching, scooping, and shooting.
3rd through 6th graders will me twice a week (Wednesdays & Sundays). For the first two weeks both sessions will be focused on learning the basics of the game including ground balls, throwing, catching, and shooting. In week three, the boys will be divided into teams and will participate in organized scrimmages on our home field at SCFL. This is a great opportunity for the players to get some game experience in a fun and instructional environment.
All players will have an opportunity to show off their skills during halftime at The Woodlands HS Lacrosse games.
